As a young child, I spent my childhood years watching lots of shows, and in hindsight I can see that some with the things I was permitted to view were inappropriate. Yet I didn't mature to be a mass murderer or any of those other fears one could have if their child spends several hours watching a specific movie. With my own, personal kids, I personally don't allow them watch horror movies because I don't want them to have nightmares, and I don't allow them watch movies with inappropriate romantic scenes because that will just make them and me uncomfortable given their ages right now. Beyond that, though, they hear crude words outdoors, and even in their own school. They are encountered with all types of topics and issues within the real world, and they do not live in a bubble. Most of the movies these are actually considering seeing are not inappropriate in subject material anyway, so while I do look into the movies they ask to watch, largely these are allowed to observe the movies that appeal to them as kids. They know that what you see is put on the screen for entertainment purposes, which most of it is only not realistic inside real world.
